Bower is a series of digital prints that create a sense of sheltering refuge suffused with luscious flora and fauna. The work is based upon photographs of the stylized stone carvings of Calvert Vaux located in Central Park in New York. These carvings depict a harmonious and peaceful natural utopia. Bower doubles and twists the fine geometry of Vaux's stone arbour into a roiling challenge to good order. Untidy garden fences, vines and rubble intrude. Unwelcome creatures lurk in the shadows. Bower takes a variety of forms. On the one hand a suite of six digital images designed to link end-to-end to create an endless frieze-like continuum for print installations, It has also provided the content for a spectator controlled immersive image and audio environment.
